Taiwan / Mandarin Language Scholarships

To encourage outstanding and promising international students to study in Taiwan, and to enhance their understanding of Taiwan’s culture, society, and national development, the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) offers a variety of scholarships. These scholarships aim to foster long-term friendships and support, expand international relations, strengthen diplomatic ties, and promote academic and educational exchanges with foreign governments, schools, cultural and educational institutions, and other organizations.

Taiwan Scholarship

  1. Program Details:

    a. Sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Ministry of Education (MOE), Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), and National Science and Technology Council (NSTC).

    b. Available for international students pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in Taiwan.

    c. MOFA offers scholarships for students from diplomatic allies to study at undergraduate or graduate level; MOEA offers scholarships for graduate programs in high-tech fields such as science, engineering, medicine, and agriculture.

    d. Scholarship Benefits:

    • MOFA: Monthly stipend of NT$30,000 and one round-trip airfare.

    • MOE: NT$25,000/month for undergraduate or language study; NT$30,000/month for graduate study.

    • MOEA & NSTC: NT$30,000/month.

    e. Duration of Award:

    • 1 year for language preparation, 4 years for undergraduate, 2 years for master’s, and 3 years for doctoral programs. The total maximum duration is 5 years.

    f. Scholarship Year Period: From September 1 to August 31 of the following year.

  2. Eligibility Requirements:

    a. High school graduate.
    b. Not a citizen of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
    c. Not an overseas Chinese student.
    d. Not an exchange student.
    e. Has not previously received a scholarship for the same program or for a Mandarin Language Program.
    f. Has not previously studied the same degree or language program in Taiwan.
    g. Has never had their scholarship revoked.
    h. Cannot receive any other scholarship from the Taiwanese government or institutions at the same time.

  3. Application Period: February 1 to March 31 annually.

  4. Required Documents:

    a. Apply for admission to a Mandarin Language Center and obtain an admission letter.
    b. Scholarship application form.
    c. Photocopy of passport.
    d. Highest education diploma and transcript (if not in Chinese or English, must be verified by a Taiwan representative office).
    e. Admission letter from the Mandarin Language Center.
    f. Other documents as required by the local Taiwan representative office.
    g. Submit all documents to the nearest Taiwan Representative Office.

  5. Termination of Scholarship:

    a. Absence from language classes exceeding 12 hours in a single month.
    b. From the second term onward, if the semester grade average is below 80.
    c. Failure to pass the TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language) Band A (basic level) by June 30 after enrollment.
