Hello (Nǐ hǎo), my name is Supakrit Suttiphattanakit and my nickname is Mos. I come from Thailand to study master’s degree of engineering at National Taipei University of Technology. I have used to learn Chinese before, but it was long time ago. So, I apply this course because I am interested in Chinese culture, want to speak Chinese in dairy life in Taiwan, and can understand that what they are talking about.
For this course, it’s good for me because I can learn from the basics such as, reading word, spelling, voice tone and sentence structure. Chinese word is very difficult to write and remember. In class, a teacher introduces new words using pinyin in each starting class and the content is reviewed in a quiz. The content is limited to reading and pronouncing pinyin words, which is perfectly acceptable to me since I'm supplementing this course with my friends in online classes. I study 2 hours per class, and 2 classes per week. I really enjoyed this course. They have many exercises such as, dialogue listening, true and fault questions, pinyin test etc. Also, the extra exercises will help you to get a better understanding of the Chinese language.
My teacher was lovely. She was easy to follow and very clear in her speaking. She taught me how to speak sentences and questions. And she presented me with a lot of new vocabulary which I know, and I don’t know. She also teaches more about sentences that use in dairy life. For example, how to order a bubble milk tea and specify level of sugar or ice. These have helped me immensely.
It is a great refresher course whether you have tried to learn Chinese before or not. There is nothing threatening about it. I hope a follow-up course will be created. I will definitely do it.

Hello, my name is Mukesh, I’m an Indian. Today I would like to share my thoughts on
Taipei Tech and CLTC.
Thoughts on Studying in Taipei Tech:
Taipei tech has given us an opportunity by providing scholarships at their esteemed
university. Over here I think the courses are far more interactive they have lots of
seminars and presentations, we are doing at least one presentation in every two or three
weeks’ so it’s very interactive and definitely a great way to learn as well. You have more
time to study your own and they make you think, they make you create your own ideas
expose them and develop them so I think it’s great. And the weekly scheduled lab
meetings will make us to maintain the project track.
Thoughts On CLTC:
I was looking to join a Chinese class. The day I received a mail stating “Subsidy for first 20
students”, I was decided strongly to grab the opportunity, the classes are very flexible and
interactive teaching methods are making us to communicate more with the teacher to
clarify our doubts. The events organizing by the CLTC are like Cherry on Top, apart from
just learning Chinese, we are able to know their culture and practices.
Thoughts on Taiwan:
“The Safest Land Right Now.” We know the entire world is suffering during this
pandemic, even my family has affected with Corona, Thanks to Taiwan and its people
for creating a safe and secured environment. It’s been a year journey in Taiwan during
this period I have noticed few interesting things. People here are very humanity kind of,
the food habits are so healthy and nutritious, equality and respect everywhere, last but
not least it’s a land of opportunities. I can see a wide range of opportunities particularly
in my field (electronics).

On the first day of coming to Taiwan, I feel like how I can survive in this country because what I can speak is only 你好 (Nǐhǎo) and 謝謝 (Xièxiè). I used to learned mandarin when I was young but I cannot remember anything. So that is why I decided to start learning mandarin again. First day of studying mandarin, the teacher taught me about the Chinese sound system which is really complicated. There are 7 vowels and 21 consonants with many rules. The hardest part of the Chinese sound system is how to pronounce zh, ch, sh, r, z, and, c. It made me so confuses when I have to pronounce a word that includes all of these consonants. About the tonal language, there are 4 distinct tones. I knew that this part is the most difficult part for English speakers. But it is not a problem for me because all 4 tones are similar to Thai’s tone. After learning about the Chinese sound system, the teacher started to teach me about vocabulary in daily life in each chapter. The most useful chapter for me is the chapter about how to order food. In that chapter, I learned a lot of words about food and drink. It made me so proud of myself when I can order the food in mandarin by myself. I have learned many gramma rules which are similar to Thai language. Although the grammar for describing the place is so confusing and different from any grammar rule. The most difficult part of learning mandarin for me is the study of Chinese characters. There is no pattern to remember the characters what I have to do is remember all characters for all words. I hope I can find a way to remember it. I am really happy when I can a bit communicate with my Taiwanese friends.

大家好我叫潇术亭。我是泰国人。我现在在台湾。我来台湾念研究所。我是北科大的学生。我学习化学工程系。我学这个系因为在高中的时候, 我有機會餐廳化學比賽，然後我對化學工程有興趣，所以我確定念化學工程。我現在有機會學中文從北科大的中文中心。 我好喜歡學習中文。我的班只有兩個學生、就是我和一個男生從法國。他也是北科大的學生。我們的班一個星期有兩課，一個課有兩個小時。我們的老師也很好。她講中文好清楚。她教都生詞，語法，發音。她常常跟我們聊天。如果你們對中文有興趣，你們可以來這裡學習啊。第一次，老師問你一點問題，就是你學過中文嗎？、你考過中文考試嗎，然後老師給你學你的和試辦，所以你們別擔心如果你還沒學習中文。

I came to Taiwan without any basic knowledge of Chinese which it is difficult for me to do the basic cores for my everyday life. With a support from my professors and friend, I decided to take a Chinese course from CLTC in National Taipei University of Technology. The first class had already amazed me and to be straightforward I’m ready to give up, but my teacher is very kind and calm, so I second thought and decided to give it a try. The class is very flexible as it is an online class due to the pandemics although the obstruct in the internet connection from my place cause some misheard of the clear pronunciation from both my side and teacher’s. The lessons are sorted from the basic from simple greetings to the level that I was able to order food and drinks by myself. My main problem is that I can not read and understand any Chinese characters at all from the beginning but after the first course I am able to read some words in the restaurant’s menu as well as the bubble tea shop and those cute cafés that are located around my place and Taipei Tech. For reading and reading parts, I already found it is very hard but the hardest part is the writing part. Chinese has its own rules to writes each character as we all know that Taiwan prefers the traditional Chinese characters which is way more complicated than the simplified one which is really hard. I found it somehow confusing to decide which line should come first. When each chapter end, our teacher will give us a listening test which I personally like this kind of test because it is a useful tool to remind myself to always review the lesson and how some words actually sounds but it would be better to have the test every week or every two weeks to keep us focus more with the lesson.

Greetings of the day, I would like to express my sincere views on the great learning opportunity that has been provided by this Chinese Learning course NTUT. This by far has provided me with the ability to understand and learn day to day conversation. I have a firm belief that learning the local language will open a lot of unexplored doors and experiences for me. Because, coming from a diverse country like India, it is understandable that people will connect with you better if you know their language. This course and it's structure is very suitable for empowering us with the required knowledge and understanding of the local language and it's appropriate interpretation. I am Vivi, a NTUT masters student. I am attending the Business Chinese course at NTUT CLTC and I am happy with my course. At first, I attended another class at an easier level and the teacher recommended that I change to my current one that suits me better. The class size is small with around 4 to 5 students, so that all of us have chances to speak, to interact, to practice and ask the teacher anytime when there’s something we do not understand. From the teacher to the counselor and staff at the center, all of them are very kind and supportive. I have registered for my next course to continue to study Chinese here.
